The Message that Builds Men (Pt 1)

Acts 20:32 ESV “And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

The grace of God is not the leniency of God. The grace of God is his expression of love to humanity. It's a sad thing to know that preachers have been segregated into the virtues of God. There are those who preach faith, those who preach grace, those who preach holiness, prosperity, etc. After the Holy Spirit was given, there was not a single preacher categorized in this manner throughout scripture. That's because they had one message. The message that Paul and the apostles hazarded their lives for was the gospel of the grace of God. "But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." Acts 20:24 ESV This was the same message he committed to the elders of the church, one that could build them up and introduce them to the inheritance laid up for them in Christ. "And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified." Acts 20:32 ESV Whether it's faith, holiness, prosperity, or righteousness, they are all the products of grace. So preaching one of them is preaching an incomplete message. Think about it... It is because of his love (grace) that we passed from death to life (Eph 2:1-8) and obtained salvation. And that was through faith. It is because of God's love that the Holy Spirit lives in us. And we are holy (and can live holy) because the Holy Spirit lives in us (1 Cor 1v31). And because of his love (grace), we have access to the unsearchable riches of Christ (Eph 3:7-8). The message of God's grace is very comprehensive, touching many areas. There shouldn't be any wonder why the average believer is weak in their expression of faith and mostly struggles. As a believer, go for the word of His grace. That is what builds. As a preacher/one who disciples, remember that your service is to men but unto God. And give yourself to building men according to God's pattern. The apostles were very particular and strict about any deviations from what they had received. In Galatians 1:6-9 ESV, Paul said, "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed." Prayer: Father, I thank you because by your grace I have access to your riches, faith, holiness, and every good and perfect gift in Christ. I embrace the word of your grace that builds and has given me an inheritance. Amen!
