Fellowship With The Word
Colossians 3:8-10 NKJV [8] But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. [9] Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, [10] and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.

There is a misconception when among believers we say things like "we're fighting or killing the flesh". Our fight as believers is not "the flesh". It is ignorance. The flesh died when you said yes to Jesus. There are several interesting words to investigate from the verses above. The first is the word "put off". It's used in verse 8 and verse 9. Interestingly, different Greek words are used in the different verses. This is one reason you don't want to approach your Bible like you do with another English textbook or history material. In verse 8, the Greek used is 'apotithēmi' which means -to put away or to lay aside or to cast off. So, Paul is telling the church to put away or lay aside or cast off (separate themselves) from every anger, filthy communication, malice etc. In verse 9 however, the Greek for the same English word that was used is interesting. It is "apekduomai". It means -to despoil or to divest wholly oneself. Okay, to divest means to strip someone of property, rights, or authority; it means to relinquish control. Similar to divest, despoil means to plunder, or to strip someone or something of possessions, value, or attractiveness, often by force, robbery, or ruthless destruction, leaving it ruined. It is the same word used in Colossians 2:15 NKJV [15] Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. So, if you think about what Paul is saying in our earlier v9, he's telling them to not lie to one another (or sin in general) because their reality is that their flesh (that old man) has been disarmed. He was crucified. Romans 6:6 KJV [6] knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him (Christ), that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Galatians 5:24 KJV [24] And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. So please there are two charges for us, First is this Romans 6:11-12 TPT [11] So let it be the same way with you! Since you are now joined with him, you must continually view yourselves as dead and unresponsive to sin’s appeal while living daily for God’s pleasure in union with Jesus, the Anointed One.12] Sin is a dethroned monarch; so you must no longer give it an opportunity to rule over your life, controlling how you live and compelling you to obey its desires and cravings. Second is this I Corinthians 15:34 NKJV [34] Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God_ ... Please think on these things and act on it. These are priceless truths that will change our lives for ever. PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you for your word that has come to me today. I receive the word of your grace with excitement and meekness and i give room for your Spirit to transform and renew my mind. Your word is the final authority and my reality and i accept and walk in the reality of this word. Amen!
