John 8:10-11 NKJV “When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
Log in to save this devotionalIn John 8v1-11, Jesus has an encounter with the pharisees, and the woman caught in adultery. You see, whenever we're studying and we come across anything that Jesus is involved with, let everything in you focus and give attention. That's because as the perfect expression of the mind and reasoning of God, there's always an excellent example to renew our minds with. God doesn't condemn anyone because there is no condemnation in Christ. (Read John 3v17 & Romans 8v1) so he's not mad at anyone no matter what. However, right after the encounter with the woman caught in adultery, Jesus is addressing the crowd and the Pharisees are among the same people that brought the woman before him. He said something to them in John 8:15 NLT [15] You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone. (or you judge just by what you see). I do not judge anyone. But even if I do judge, my judgment is right. These pharisees had written off this lady and wanted her alone to be condemned because she was caught in adultery. A good question to ask would be... How easy is it for us to see people for who God sees them to be, beyond what the external appearances portray? How often do we scrutinize and evaluate and pass judgment at first sight based on appearance? In the same way that not everyone who is suited is a saint, not everyone who is tattered is a thug. The Scripture says man looks on the outward appearance and God looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT [7] But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” That tells you that there is something about the standard of human judgment that inevitably falls short of Gods standard. Statistics say that the average adult makes about 35000 decisions a day. If you think about how many times you were aware about Gods standards when making any of the decisions, how many can boast of up to 10 or 15. Jeremiah 10:23 ESV [23] I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps. The Holy Spirit you received when you believed the gospel was given to God's you into all truth. He lives in you to lead you in the way you should go and to reveal to you the mind of God who is Christ. He wants to shape the way you think by his word. Always remember that Christ is the standard of your decision-making process. So, to make better decisions in life, invest yourself in the knowledge of Christ. PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you for the word that has come to me today. Help me to say others the way you see them and help me to love like you do. I submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit for the transformation and renewal of my mind to yours, in Jesus name. Amen!
